Step 2: Set Up Your Blog

Alright, now let’s set up your blog!

First Task Click here to get your free domain and sign up for hosting with Bluehost.

Now, we’ll walk you through exactly how to complete every step of the signup process below. Once you’ve completed the first task, you’ll want to click the green “Get Started” button. It’ll look like this…

From here you get to choose your plan. If you’re just starting and are unsure of which plan to go with, pick the basic plan for $3.95/mo. It has everything you’ll need and you can always upgrade later.

After this, you can either get a free domain name with Bluehost or simply move your existing domain to Bluehost if you’ve already purchased it somewhere else.

Now, all that is left is signing-up and paying for your plan. Note that the $3.95/mo option is only available if you buy 36 months at a time. You can select the drop-down box and change it to the Basic 12-month price for $5.95/mo. But don’t be disappointed, this is still a great deal at 33% off their full price.

They’ll give you a few options for extras you can add on to your package. You’re welcome to pay for all of them, but we uncheck the boxes next to the other products when we sign-up. You can always get these products later if you decide you need them.

The only extra that you might want to consider is Domain Privacy + Protection. This option masks your personal information from the whois database, which is publicly visible to anyone on the internet. In other words, you are still the owner of your domain, but your personal contact information is hidden from public view.

After you have completed those steps, including adding your account and payment information, you’ll need to select the green “submit” button and be redirected to create a password for your account.

You’ll then have to select a basic design template for your blog. You can always change this later (and we’ll show you how) so just pick one that looks good.

After you select a basic design template, Bluehost will automatically connect your account to WordPress, your blogging platform.

WordPress is the software that runs your blog. We’ve used WordPress since we started and we still think it’s the most versatile and easy to use blogging platform out there. In fact, this site is run on WordPress! Click “Start Building” to log in to your blog!
